March 2020– A feature essay appears in Past Ten, which is a fabulous project by Bailey Gaylin Moore and Donald Quist, where contributors reflect on their lives and what they were doing exactly ten years ago.
August 2019- My second novel manuscript, IN ALL GOOD FAITH, was named a semi-finalist in the Faulkner Society Faulkner-Wisdom Competition 2019 in the Novel category. In 2017, it was a was a semi-finalist in the Novel-in-Progress category.
August 2019- I’ve just signed a two-book deal with Blackstone Publishing for my historical novels, ETIQUETTE FOR RUNAWAYS and IN ALL GOOD FAITH. More details in my recent blog posts.
June 2019 – In somewhat chronological order, here are some books I used for reference as well as some biographies, memoirs, and fiction titles that tie in with my June, 2019 lecture, “Evolution and Revolution in Women’s Fashion, 1850-1970”.
April 2019- My froggy flash fiction piece, The Matron Amphibicides, was published in The Loch Raven Review.
August 2018- My first novel manuscript, ETIQUETTE FOR RUNAWAYS (formerly titled “The Thin End of the Wedge”) was named a finalist in the 2018 Faulkner-Wisdom Creative Writing Contest.
July 2018- I attended the Sewanee Writers’ Conference.
June 2018- An excerpt from my first novel manuscript, ETIQUETTE FOR RUNAWAYS (formerly titled “The Thin End of the Wedge”) was published online in the Southern Voices feature of Deep South Magazine.
May 2018– Longlist, Retreat West First Chapter Contest, ETIQUETTE FOR RUNAWAYS.
December 2017- A excerpt from my second novel-in-progress (working title: IN ALL GOOD FAITH, has been named a finalist in the Tucson Festival of Books Literary Awards 2017.
October 2017- I’ll be a Hawthornden International Fellow in 2018. Along with five other writers, I get to spend a month in a castle near Edinburgh, Scotland. This program is funded by the late Mrs. Drue Heinz, founder of The Paris Review.
February 2017- an excerpt from my second novel, IN ALL GOOD FAITH, has won second place in the Seven Hills Literary Contest (Novel Excerpt Division) and has been published in the spring issue of the Seven Hills Review.
January 2017- My short story “Olympic Pancake” was shortlisted in the Strands International Short Story Competition and will be published in the upcoming Four Elements Anthology of Short Fiction.
August 2016- Chapter 8 of my novel manuscript, ETIQUETTE FOR RUNAWAYS (formerly titled “The Thin End of the Wedge”) was featured as an excerpt online, in The Copperfield Review.
June 2016– My short story “Olympic Pancake” was named a finalist in the New Millennium Writings Fiction Contest.
January 2016– “Mrs. Walker,” a short story, won the fiction prize of The San Miguel De Allende Writer’s Conference. The story has been published, along with the winners of the poetry and nonfiction prizes, on the conference website. I was delighted to be a guest of the Conference from February 10-15, 2016.
December 2015- My historical novel, ETIQUETTE FOR RUNAWAYS (formerly “The Thin End of the Wedge”) , was longlisted for the Mslexia Magazine Women’s Novel Competition in the UK and was also a finalist for the Tucson Festival of Books Literary Awards, in January 2016.
October 2015– My short story “Mrs. Walker” was named one of six finalists in the Southern Writer’s Symposium Emerging Writer’s Contest and was also a finalist for the Ruminate Magazine Van Dyke Prize.
